Telewest wields the jobs axe

Merges consumer and business divisions...

NEWS Telewest is cutting 1,500 jobs in a bid to save over £50m. The restructuring will see the merger of the company's consumer and business divisions. The company's workforce is now around 9,000. Telewest also said it now has almost 150,000 subscribers to its blueyonder broadband internet service. The company today announced a first quarter net loss of £166m, compared to a loss of £209m 12 months ago. Earlier this week, Telewest offered half-price installation to 200,000 former customers of ITV Digital. The cable company is struggling to reduce debts of £5.3bn.
