House of Fraser busted for illegal software

NEWS London-based department store the House of Fraser has been caught using illegal software. The Business Software Alliance (BSA) discovered the company was using unlicensed Macromedia software. The House of Fraser has paid up an undisclosed sum in compensation. The BSA has also uncovered two more London-based organisations breaking the law. Euro Car Parts, a retailer and distributor of car parts, paid £7,500 to BSA for the illegal use of Microsoft software, while Prominent Pages, an internet media company, has paid £20,000 for the illegal use of Microsoft software. In 2001, the BSA received more than 1,200 leads on companies suspected of using software illegally.
