Amazon moves in on eBay territory

Is the auction site under threat...

NEWS Amazon is set to allow second hand goods to be sold on its site in a similar way to fellow pioneering etailer eBay. Users can currently only sell second hand goods which are sold as new by Amazon. However, this strategy will be expanded, according to an analyst privy to an executive meeting at the weekend. The ramifications for eBay are that Amazon could end up selling all sorts of goods, not just the books and CDs it is famous for. Amazon has already inked a deal with electronics retailer Circuit City. Amazon's marketplace charges a fee and also takes a share of the sellers' profits. It also makes money from passing on some of its ecommerce technology to these sellers.
