NEWS Juniper is to buy Siemens router business Unisphere Networks for about $740m in cash and stock. Siemens had once earmarked the Connecticut-headquartered unit for a possible IPO but the drop in spending by communications service providers led to a reassessment. The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter and will dilute Juniper's earnings slightly this year. Juniper is a designer and maker of internet infrastructure that competes with Cisco.
