Final whistle sounds for sports.com

No last-minute rescue for leading sports site...

NEWS Sports.com went into administration today, threatening around 100 jobs in its London offices. The company's administrators, Baker Tilly, claim the sports.com site will stay up and running throughout the World Cup, during which time it hopes to find a buyer for the business. However, the company admits that it cannot carry on with its existing cost structure, and is thought to be concentrating on finding a buyer for its betting arm. Its operations in France, Germany and Spain are also up for sale, but are not in administration.
