Scottish language gets (Och-ai the) new website

You wait ages for one and then two come along at once...

NEWS A dictionary of Scottish words and phrases is to be launched online by a team of Dundee academics. The dictionary, which is currently being compiled, is expected to go live by February 2004. It is being put together in the hope of preserving around 100,000 Scottish words and phrases, many of which date back almost 1,000 years. If successful it is hoped the service will be expanded to cover the Gaelic language as well. The project is funded by a £320,000 grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Board, according to reports on the BBC. A separate, but remarkably similar project is also being compiled by academics in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
