NEWS BT has honoured a number of UK organisations for their use of technology to bring benefits to the community. The eWell-Being awards, sponsored by BT are split into four main categories: transport, resource efficiency, community empowerment and promoting digital inclusion. The winners, announced today, include Lichfield District Council in Staffordshire which has set up IT training centres for disadvantaged residents and Braintree District Council in Essex which is bringing health information to the elderly through staff armed with handheld computers and broadband wireless access. In the transport section Norfolk-based liftshare.com took top spot. The site aims to reduce congestion in the area by bringing drivers and passengers together. This is the first year the awards have taken place and winners will receive their awards at BT's famous tower in central London.
