Icann shores up defences against cyber squatters

More time to renew expired names...

NEWS Icann edged closer to a proposal which will give domain name owners more time to renew their contracts In a meeting held yesterday. By giving people more time to renew their domains, Icann will be able to appease the many individuals and organisations that have had their registrations inadvertently deleted. It is also hoped the move, which could be ratified later today, will stop cyber squatters from moving in on expired domains before the original owners get round to renewing them. The organisation is also looking to push through a measure to create a waiting list for popular domain names as they become available to the public.
