Europe escapes the worst of the WorldCom job axe

Getting off relatively lightly...

NEWS European job losses at WorldCom are going to be minimal compared to the thousands set to go in the US. Of a total of 17,000 redundancies announced by the business last week in the wake of the fraud scandal, only 450 will be taken from the EMEA region. More will go in Asia but the bulk of the cuts will be slashed from WorldCom's home market in the US. WorldCom claimed the 17,000 job losses were nothing to do with its CFO's involvement in the $3.8bn fraud.
