FTSE crashes to record low

NEWS The FTSE crashed below the 4,000 mark this morning, the lowest level since 1996, despite making initial gains in early trading. But early optimism lasted less than an hour before the index slumped to 3,900. At 10:45 (BST) the FTSE stood at 3,926. Trading started off briskly following yesterday's show on Wall Street when the Dow Jones regained a 400-point loss in a late day rally. However, in London investor confidence faded early as the index regained just one third of yesterday's 5.3 per cent decline. Meanwhile Deutsche Telekom shares rebounded on yesterday's 15 per cent drop to stand 1.53 per cent up by 10:45 (BST). For related news, see:
