NEWS Troubled French media giant Vivendi is breaking up its pay-TV division Canal Plus. The move is the latest initiative by Vivendi to turn around its flagging business and a first foray into major restructuring at the group by new CEO Jean-Rene Fourtou, who replaced Jean-Marie Messier earlier this month. Vivendi will maintain control of the domestic Canal Plus television channels, but other parts of the business are being put up for sale, including units in Belgium, Poland and Spain, as well as the company's production house Studio Canal, decoder manufacturer Canal Plus Technologies and film distribution unit UGC.
