Egg credit card alliance lacks chemistry

Boots venture scrapped...

NEWS Poor uptake has forced Egg to ditch its joint credit scheme with Boots. The online bank had initially hoped to use the venture to boost its new customer intake but after only 104,000 people signed-up, the pair decided to call it day. Despite this, Egg claims it is still managing to attract new customers and yesterday announced a first-half profit before tax of £1.2m. This compares with a loss of £63.4m in the comparable period of last year.
