FTSE 100 hits new lows

Blue chip index hits six year low...

NEWS There was no let-up this morning for blue chip share values which took a further battering as the FTSE 100 hit its lowest point since 1996. Just after 09:00(BST) this morning, the UK's index of leading shares was down 3.6 per cent at 3,721.2. By 10:30(BST) it had slipped further to 3,691.30. In the tech sector, one time FTSE giant Vodafone was off by more than five per cent at 82.19p while mobile operator mm02 slipped more than six per cent to 43.81p. Colt Telecom was the exception after announcing a rise in revenues. It was up 2.81 per cent to 45.75p.
