BT to buy WorldCom assets?

Remember MCI? Just a thought

NEWS BT Group is keeping a close eye on developments at WorldCom with a view to bidding for certain of the troubled telco's European assets should they become available. Andy Green, head of BT services division BT Ignite, is quoted in today's FT as saying offers could be tabled for network assets in cities where BT might otherwise build its own. He dismissed claims BT will make a more substantial offer, arguing in favour of WorldCom pulling through to boost confidence in the sector. Green is also reported as saying that although BT, like other carriers, has picked up some ex-WorldCom customers, most are waiting out the current financial crisis at the US-based company.
