Gent says pay figures are 'tosh'

Vodafone boss takes stand against shareholders...

NEWS As a number of major shareholders ready themselves to continue their attack against Chris Gent and his bulging pay packet, the Vodafone boss has issued a response claiming the figures are over-inflated. While the Financial Times today claims several major investors are set to vote against Gent's pay package at the company's annual meeting tomorrow, it's likely the deal will still be approved. In the meantime, Gent has responded to the wide coverage afforded to his salary and bonuses in the media. He was quoted in today's Daily Telegraph as saying: "There is a lot of tosh being written. It is just nonsense. But you know ... give a good number and we can write a good story about it."
