NEWS BT has put in a bid for a majority stake in South Africa's second fixed line telephone licence. South Africa's government plans to sell 51 per cent of the licence to a foreign operator but so far BT is the only overseas company to show an interest. The winner of the licence will go into business with state owned utility Eskom and the transport group Transtel who own 30 per cent of the licence.
