Microsoft snaffles up music download patents

NEWS Music industry software maker Liquid Audio has sold its patent rights to Microsoft for $7m. Liquid Audio's software enables users to download and listen to music. It also includes functions to enable users to buy music online. The deal sees Microsoft become the proud owner of the company's digital rights management technology and technology for transferring music files onto portable devices, such as personal MP3 players.
