Broadband to be rolled out to EVERY South Korean home

NEWS Every household in South Korea will soon have broadband internet access thanks to a £7bn government-backed scheme. The money will come from South Korea's largest telecoms company, KT Corp, along with several other ISPs. The government will also make loans available to help fund the rollout. The target is for all households to have broadband by 2005. South Korea is already the most wired country in the world with 10 million high-speed net connections in its population of 48 million. The UK government is still resisting a wholesale intervention in the market in this country, believing - along with BT - that competition is the best way of ensuring the nation gets access to broadband. It has earmarked around £30m to encourage rollout here.
