BT Openworld launches free 'safe surfing' trial

Protect your kids from dodgy content

NEWS BT Openworld is giving parents the opportunity to trial some content filtering software for free. The ISP hopes the new service, based on CyberPatrol's Parental Control software, will help parents protect their children from websites which they feel may be unsuitable. It also enables concerned mums and dads to filter inbound and outbound chatroom content, or even elect to block it completely, and to allocate the amount of time spent online by individual members of the family. There is no limit to the number of user profiles that can be set up and customers can tailor the service depending on what they think is and isn't suitable for their family. The free trial of CyberPatrol's 'Parental Control' software is limited to 45 days, after which it will cost £31.95 for a 12 month subscription with free upgrades for all BT Openworld customers. At any time during the free 45 day subscription, BT Openworld customers will be eligible for a 20 per cent discount on the retail price of a CyberPatrol annual subscription. Russell Chadwick, vice-president at CyberPatrol said: "As more and more homes get connected to the internet, it opens up a whole new world. Unfortunately, the internet is unregulated and there are millions of websites that are simply not suitable for children. Our aim is to put the control back into the hands of parents by giving them the tools to choose when and where their children go online."
