Computacenter buys its way back into Germany

Compare and contrast with last year...

NEWS Computacenter has re-established a presence in Germany with the purchase of GE CompuNet for £36.5m. The deal includes GE's Gecits arm, in Austria, and could rise to £77.5m depending on whether the units hit certain targets over the next two years. Despite being Europe's largest computer reseller, Computacenter withdrew from the German market in October last year because it felt its operations were not of the correct size. It took a £9m charge as a result of that exit but reckons its new arms will be earnings enhancing as early as next year.
