NEWS Citibank is offering customers opening new premium current accounts an incentive - a free broadband modem and connection to Freeserve. The modem, an Alcatel SpeedTouch, is worth £84.99 while the initial sign-up charge would normally be £65. Users will thereafter have to pay the ISP £27.99 per month. The bank account in question requires a salary of over £20,000 per annum with a regular sum paid in monthly or a salary of £30,000 and a one-off deposit of £2,000. Anyone wanting to sign up for the offer should do so after getting the usual BT line survey to see if ADSL is available where they live. A Citibank spokesman said if ADSL isn't available new account holders will be offered £30 and annual travel insurance. However, he admitted there is the possibility people could sign up then take the Alcatel ADSL modem to use with another ADSL subscription. "Technically they could go and use a different provider but we'd advise against that," he said. The offer is open until 28 February 2003. Citibank has trail blazed account aggregation through its My Accounts service, which it now says has just over 20,000 users in the UK.
