Red Nose Day site attracts rich pickings

Comic Relief online stats are no laughing matter

NEWS Over 200,000 people have now logged on to www.rednoseday.com - the website set up by Comic Relief to support this year's fund raising efforts, which culminate on 14 March with the BBC's TV extravaganza. This is the first time Comic Relief has created a Red Nose Day event website separate from its usual year-round online home. It went live on 7 February and within two weeks had attracted 200,000 visitors, generating four million page downloads. And it seems as if a lot of people are logging on from the office - but in their own time, of course. The site's peak traffic levels are between 1pm and 2pm. Amanda Horton-Mastin, Comic Relief’s marketing director, said: "Comic Relief is thrilled that so many people have visited the Red Nose Day website already. It's great to see supporters coming to find out how to get involved, download sponsorship forms and banners for their own websites, as well as buy Red Nose Day merchandise online." The online 'Big Hair Do' Head Quarters contains fundraising ideas, places for people to tell others what they’re doing and support to help them do it. There’s also information about why people raise money and where it goes. www.rednoseday.com also has exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and will be used to support such programmes as ‘Comic Relief Does Celebrity Driving School’ and ‘Comic Relief Does Fame Academy’.
