NEWS Virtual network operator Vanco has won Best Service Provider of the Year at the 2003 Networking Industry Awards - beating off competition from rival Thus and troubled telco Cable and Wireless. The awards, run in association with silicon.com, were announced at the annual Networks show in Birmingham and judges singled out Vanco for particular praise in making the award - citing customer care and global service capabilities as deciding factors in selecting the winner. Allen Timpany, Vanco CEO, said: Vanco has been satisfying the data networking needs of large global organisations for many years and were delighted to receive this award as it recognises the focus we place on providing value-added services." The past few years have seen Vanco rise to increased prominence on the back of a unique virtual network model. The company owns none of the infrastructure it uses but rather sources network space from 'best of breed' local providers in each region in order to tailor a bespoke solution to each customer. Among Vanco's customers are Avis, Ford, FT Interactive Data and Virgin Retail. Among the judges for the Networking Industry Awards 2003 were Cap Gemini Ernst and Young, KPMG and Meta Group.
