How much would you like to pay for broadband?

"Less than I do now" would appear to be popular... but not as popular as you might think...

NEWS Almost half the UK's broadband users aren't happy to settle for just having the in-demand technology, it turns out they also want to have it for less money than they currently pay. However, perhaps more surprising is the fact that a silicon.com survey has revealed that 52.8 per cent of respondents with broadband think the current services available are reasonably priced and see no need for further price cuts. Only 47.2 per cent of those readers who have broadband think there need to be further price cuts, with £11 to £15 identified as the most popular range by 40.9 per cent of that minority. These people also find support among the broadband have-nots, with 13.3 per cent of those without broadband citing prohibitive pricing as the reason they haven't made the high-speed upgrade. In all, the majority of respondents who want to see price cuts put the ideal price range at under £20, with only 5.3 per cent willing to pay more than £20. However, 29.5 per cent believe the price should actually be under £10 per month. Some (4.2 per cent) believe broadband should cost less than £5 per month, while an optimistic - possibly deluded - handful (3.8 per cent) would expect the service to be offered free of charge. While prices have come down in past months, alongside price cuts at the wholesale level, those wanting free broadband for all may yet have some time to wait. 'Don't hold your breath' would probably be the most fitting advise for these respondents.
