NEWS With the great and good of the telecoms and IT worlds about to descend on Geneva for the four-yearly ITU Telecom event, airline networking company Sita has taken the opportunity to trial a scheduling service based around the new dot-aero suffix. Travellers flying in or out of Geneva International Airport can check real-time flight status by using the http://www.information.aero/mobile.php website. The service differs from using individual airline or airport websites because it will ultimately be global, standardised - around dot-aero - and available via PCs, mobiles and PDAs. Marie Zitkova, Sita head of .aero, told silicon.com: "Recognition of the naming convention is now big among those in the aviation community but now it's also about telling travellers." To that end, attendees at the trade show will be IT literate guinea pigs. Zitkova stressed the service is still in prototype stage and declined to speculate on whether it will lead to changes in the usage of other websites.
