NEWS Google and Apple have topped a league table of brands, holding off fierce competition from other sectors.
Readers of Brandchannel.com cast their votes, and the top 10 for 2003 came out as: Google, Apple, Mini, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Ikea, Nokia, Nike, Sony and Starbucks.
Google and Apple held the same two positions in 2002, though then the top 10 also included car brands BMW and Volkswagen.
The importance and value of branding is an interesting debating point. Clearly a company such as Apple, with its new hardware, well-respected OS, and iPod and iTunes offerings, had a storming year. CEO Steve Jobs was even voted silicon.com's 2003 Agenda Setter.
However, translating such recognition and its associated benefits into bottom line improvements is another matter.
The impact of Google's brand could even have an impact on a flotation, should it take place this year.
In Europe, the figures showed Nokia losing the previous year's top spot, now sitting behind furniture-seller Ikea and airline Virgin Atlantic.

Subject: Search Engines (Google/Yahoo+Others) ads removed and replaced w/own ads. Is that legal? How can I stop them?
I am a small time publiseher. I came across the 550 Access Toolbar which removes search engien ads, but goes one step further. It removes the search engine ads but also puts in there own ads! Link: http://www.550access.com/toolbarbeta3.html Download. I came across to this website from www.download.com which has given there toolbar a star rating.
Bottom Line: 1) It blocks search engine ads. (Including Google/Yahoo) 2) Replaces the search engine ads with there own ads with the toolbar.
Is this legal? What can I do as a publisher to stop them? And how can I get the search engines to stop them. I am concerned because its effects my livelyhood.

It is perfectly legal, the user decides what he can and cannot download to his computer. Programs such as these are called BHO (Browser Helper Objects). I personally fell this wont be a big factor as not many people will download it. Any way if the problem gets out of hand its not you who should worry but the search engines have to worry about it.

1) Stop worrying about it.
2) Don't do that again.
3) Learn how to spell English better.

That is a really mean remark about spelling. Shame!
