NEWS Thus has beaten 29 competitors to win a £42m, six-year contract to bring Glasgow City Council into the IP age.
The telco will be in charge of migrating the council's existing network to a fully converged IP net that will handle increased data and voice services, internet and video to about 400 offices around the city.
The council sees the move as one that will help it meet the national e-government agenda and make it easier for Glaswegians to contact the council.
Alan Stewart, Baillie and Glasgow's ICT spokesman, said: "This will upgrade and replace our network infrastructure. And it will support our streamlining of human resources and financial processes."
The council also plans another major social work and health project as well as a clutch of initiatives involving remote and mobile communications.
