NEWS CSC has won a $1.6bn IT outsourcing deal with US retail group Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Under the 10-year megadeal CSC will provide desktop, server, voice and data network support, as well as services for systems supporting Sears-related websites.

Sears is not handing everything over to CSC, however, and will retain responsibility for overall technology standards, architecture and service policies.

Sears CIO Gerald F. Kelly Jr described the deal as a "win-win" that will give the retailer access to leading-edge technologies.

Around 200 partners currently responsible for managing Sears' technical infrastructure will begin transferring to CSC during June.
