NEWS Telecoms consultancy Analysys has been bought for £12.8m by Datatec International.
The Cambridge-based outfit, which has several offices across Europe and the US, will be merged with Datatec's existing telecoms consulting business, Mason Group Limited.
The combined entity will be called Analysys Mason Group or AMG. It will be headed by current Analysys MD Simon Jones.
The businesses have worked together in the past, though a statement about the acquisition says the focus of the deal isn't savings, though "no doubt there will be cost synergies at some point".
Analysys has carved out a solid reputation in the UK and further afield, carrying out strategy, regulatory and research work that is not a focus of Mason's at the moment. Similarly, Mason and Datatec have more expertise in information as well as communications technologies.
Analysys had been rumoured to be for sale for some time, competing in a field that features a handful of global consultancies and analyst houses.
Datatec is listed on the JSE in South Africa.
