VoIP equipment revenues up 10 per cent - quarterly

Strong interest from carriers in one of tech's hottest areas

NEWS Sales of equipment to operators who run voice over telecoms networks employing Internet Protocol (IP) totalled $389m across April, May and June of this year.

These Q2 figures, from Infonetics Research, equate to quarterly growth of 10 per cent and an annual growth rate of 21 per cent, showing the upsurge in voice of IP (VoIP) equipment sales is gathering pace.

Annual revenues are expected to grow from $1.3bn last year to $4.8bn in 2007, the market researcher forecasts.

The only segment found to be declining was ATM switch gateways.

The quarterly figures come from studying telecoms around the world and telecoms equipment vendors including well-known names such as Alcatel, Cisco, Ericsson, Lucent, Marconi, Nortel and Siemens as well as lesser-known players and VoIP specialists.
