NEWS The world's best places to surf the web have been unveiled in the Yahoo! Mail Internet Café Awards, marking the 10-year anniversary of the first internet café.
Yahoo! and Rough Guide have joined forces to compile a special e-book of the world's best internet cafés, highlighting how much cafés have changed over their 10-year history.
The winners have been chosen by a judging panel including Eva Pascoe, co-founder of the world's first internet café, Café Cyberia. Showing that it is now possible to wash and go when you go and surf, they feature 'Brainwash', a laundromat/internet café in San Francisco.
The most remote cafe was found in Timbuktu, where it was used to provide news and information for the local community.
A special award was given to Ty Waunarlwydd, an internet café for senior citizens in Swansea, Wales.
