NEWS UK virtual network operator Vanco has sealed a £5.8m deal with supply chain solution provider Wincanton to design, implement and support its wide area network (WAN).

The three-year deal will see Vanco provide and support connectivity with its 'best of breed' offering across 357 Wincanton sites in 11 European counties

Mark Thompson, UK MD of Vanco, said such geographic diversity and the potential need to increase the scale of the network at short notice makes Vanco's offering ideal.

Vanco's virtual network model 'bolts on' network space from existing incumbents and carriers which saves customers incurring carrying costs associated with multinational carriers offering bandwidth and infrastructure in loss-leading territories.

As such, customers may find themselves with a patchwork of offerings pulled together and supported by Vanco, complete with service level agreement and MPLS core technology.

Steve Bass, IT director at Wincanton, said: "Vanco's business model will allow us to benefit from the simplicity of a single service provider across all of our sites, while providing the most cost-competitive and flexible solution throughout the relationship."
