C&W picks up £1.9m Travis Perkins contract

One-year deal to build on

NEWS Travis Perkins has turned to Cable & Wireless to drive down its telecoms costs and provide a more flexible service.

The building materials supplier is embarking on a one-year agreement worth £1.9m to the telco - though it estimates it will save £400,000 over that period.

Travis Perkins IT director Frank Smith said a comprehensive review had been undertaken. Previously Opal supplied services via carrier pre-select over BT infrastructure.

While cost was a key factor for the deal, Travis Perkins will also now get a single point of accountability and single bill. It will use C&W Call Management Network and C&W Call Guard to manage its telecoms online. The idea is to analyse calls and, among other things, cut down on instances of rogue usage.

In a statement, Smith praised C&W's "commercial flexibility" and "excellent capabilities in cost control and management reporting".

The contract covers calls across 975 branches within the group.
