UK DSL broadband skyrockets

Seven million subscriptions and counting...

NEWS

Last year proved to be a bumper one for DSL broadband in Europe, with connections rising, year on year, by more than 50 per cent.

There are now nearly 50 million DSL broadband users in Europe and almost 140 million worldwide, according to the DSL Forum.

The UK now notches up more than seven million DSL users, making it the sixth most populous DSL nation, according to a new report from Point Topic for the DSL Forum.

The survey shows DSL growth reached more than 73 per cent year on year in 2005, with more than three million new subscribers joining the fold in the year.

China, however, has the biggest DSL user-base at more than 26 million. The US is the next largest, with nearly 19 million.
