The quality of telephone services is to come under scrutiny as Ofcom, the telecoms watchdog, is launching a performance comparison website.

Ofcom is insisting all fixed-line providers with at least £4m in revenues and 100 million minutes of voice calls each quarter participate in the scheme.

To give consumers and businesses a better view of services, OfCom has launched the website - topcomm.org.uk.

The site details the percentage of orders completed on time, faults and repairs, the number of complaints and billing accuracy.

Ofcom said people still identify cost as the most important factor when switching between fixed-line providers.
