Photos: Google Earth showcases natural disasters

The planet's best and worst, as seen by ESA's satellites

Looking into the eye of the storm, this satellite image of Katrina shows a dark, smooth sea surface at the hurricane's heart, due to the lack of winds and extreme low pressure there.

    Excellent pictures and story, but ruined by that stupid global switch advert that keeps moving the whole page up and down.

    Agree with Gary Lowe. I appreciate that silicon.com relies on advertising to exist, but when will advertisers realise that obtrusive banners do not make me more likely to buy that company's products or services? Quite the contrary.

    Agree with the other 2.

    Silicon you might want to let global switch know that there marketing dept obviously has unqualified web luddites in it, will not being buying anything from them.

    Besides that, great article, love the pics, I want to be one of those satellites, what a great (and more rarely), peaceful view of the world.
