Developers got the chance to get their hands on Google Mapplets API - another new product from the search giant which lets users customise Google Maps with mini-applications from Google and third-party developers.
Mapplets lets developers add more functionality to any Google Maps mash-ups appearing on their websites - for example by adding news or weather reports to the online map.
Parsons said 80 per cent of the world's information is geographically-based and online maps are "not just about putting a few pins in a map anymore".
