Photos: Five virtual worlds you need to know about

To Twinity and beyond!

Qwaq is essentially a virtual office where teams within organisations can work together even if they aren't in the same physical office.

One of its most interesting tools is Qwaq Forums, a virtual project management environment which allows people to place different document formats on a notice board and share and discuss ideas through instant messaging and voice communication.

Qwaq can also be used for businesses to communicate with their clients and customers to give them updates on projects they're working on, as well as deliver training to staff.

I don't think I 'need' to know about any of these.

I don't belieeeeve it! Virtual worlds, cities, friends companies, offices, staff and projects. What's the point of all this pretending when you get nothing more than a virtual product at the end.

There are more than 300 organizations running their own virtual worlds on the OpenSim platform. It's not just about making virtual goods. It's also about prototyping objects and buildings, group collaboration, training, and meetings. There's a reason why hundreds of colleges and schools already use OpenSim, Second Life and other virtual worlds. - Maria Korolov, editor, Hypergrid Business, hypergridbusiness.com
