Symantec warns Dr Solomons deal will cause complacency

By John Oates, 26 June 1998 10:34

NEWS Symantec has warned that the takeover of Dr Solomon's by Network Associates could be expensive for customers. The deal, which is still waiting for shareholder approval, is worth £393m. Each shareholder will get 0.83 Network Associates share for each Dr Solomon's share they own. John Wakeman, sales and marketing director at Symantec, said: "McAffee has driven prices down by 75 per cent in the last two years in competition with Dr Solomons - the impetus for that has now gone." He also said the merger would raise cultural problems because of the aggressive competition between the two companies in recent years.
