In brief: IBM and NEC join to develop DVD watermark

By Julian Goldsmith, 16 July 1998 13:56

NEWS IBM and NEC have announced a plan to integrate their electronic watermarking technologies and push them as part of the DVD standard. The move is designed to prevent the copying of data from the disks. The two companies will present a single standard to the Copyright Protection Technical Workgroup and hope to have it integrated into disks by 1999. The software will be embedded into DVD content and on PC hard drives.
