In brief: Symantec posts Norton fix

NEWS Symantec has promised to post a fix on Monday for a bug discovered in its virus detection software. The bug is the result of an incompatibility between Norton Utilities 3.0 and Microsoft Windows 98. Enrike Salem, VP of Symantec's anti-virus and security division, told Silicon News: "The problem occurs during shut down. Windows 98's fast shut-down feature does not give our software a chance to take its icon out of the system tray." Salem stressed that the glitch would affect less than one thousand people. "Anyone who is affected will find that their computer freezes, and has to be switched off manually," he said. Copies of Norton Utilities 3.0 will retrieve and install the fix automatically from Symantec's Web site.
