NEWS Hackers attacked the personal files of students and teachers at one of America's most popular universities for three weeks before being discovered. The email system at Stanford University, California was broken into on 11 October and gave hackers access to the system via machines that had security software installed incorrectly. Using a data-stealing program, the hackers intercepted passwords as the users were logging on to the system. Robin Bloor, CEO at Bloor Research, said: "It doesn't surprise me." With nothing encrypted in internal networks, Bloor added that companies should follow IBM and the A/S400. "It has never been hacked, and even if it was due to being randomised, they couldn't do any damage," he said. The college has 4,500 students - including Chelsea Clinton, the President's daughter - and has stepped up efforts to install more security features on their network to prevent future break-ins from happening.
