Microsoft launches Thai piracy hotline

NEWS Microsoft is launching a software piracy hotline in Thailand offering cash rewards in return for information. Callers whose tip-offs lead to prosecution could receive up to $6,850 - depending on the amount of software involved and the type help given. Illegal software is easy to get hold of in Thailand, with latest versions available from roadside stalls. Copies of Microsoft's Windows 98 operating system went on sale in Bangkok for £5 before it had been officially launched. Microsoft estimates 84 per cent of Thai businesses use illegal copies of software packages.
