NEWS Cable & Wireless Communications (C&WC) is to resell secure ID products from Security Dynamics, as part of a deal worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The UK's largest cable operator will offer customers Security Dynamics' SecurID as part of its Secure Dial service - which it already uses internally - as well as a stand-alone product. The deal is non-exclusive. SecurID takes the form of a swipe card or a key-ring with an LCD display. The £50 device, which slots into a PC or laptop, generates a random 6-digit access code every 60 seconds, which can only be bypassed by the correct ID and password. David Harvey, product manager at C&WC, said: "We've found the demand is out there. Companies are requiring remote access as part of the outsourcing trend." According to Graham Welch, UK general manager of Security Dynamics, it already sells SecurID to over four million users worldwide.
