EU pushes through ecommerce laws

NEWS Two European ecommerce proposals will take another step through the tangle of EU legislation this week. The legislative framework for digital signatures has been under consideration by the Council of Ministers, after a lengthy period of debate about how to set them into law. Observers say this has now been agreed, and Europe will soon see strong legislation on digital signatures. The second directive is the 'Electronic Commerce Establishment for Regulatory Framework' - known as the Ecommerce Bill or Oddy Report. This is now being considered at the European Parliament's committee stage and will then be voted on before the end of Spring.
