Music executives debate online threat

NEWS Record industry representatives are gathering in London to work out how music recording technology should be designed to allow people to download music from the Internet securely, without breaking copyrights. The conference has been organised by the Secure Digital Music Initiative (SDMI) which represents the music industry's efforts over the last few years to come to terms with the threat of the Internet on the music distribution industry. Devices that can record music directly from the Internet pose a threat to the intellectual property rights of the artist - but also could significantly effect distribution revenues. SDMI's aim is to replace all recording devices with authorised ones so that downloading can be controlled and revenues can be maintained.
