NEWS Electronic fraud took centre stage yesterday at the International Financial Fraud Convention in London. The convention, being held over three days, brings together financial, government and business representatives from around the world, including the World Bank and IMF. Speaking at the conference, Bill Cleghorn, head of fraud investigations at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said Internet fraud is currently estimated at over £10bn worldwide. He said: "A lot of people are concerned about what kind of crimes are possible through the Internet once it becomes completely embedded in our society. "It's the least understood form of fraud. People have different views on how it is perpetrated, the extent of crime that can be committed and how easy it is to conceal yourself on the Internet," he added. Delegates also discussed what measures are needed to prevent and detect electronic fraud, and debated whether software is capable of providing real protection against fraud.
