NEWS The Melissa virus is back, wreaking havoc on many of the UK's large companies, according to reports from virus monitor, Star Internet, today. Alex Shipp, virus technologist at the company, revealed that Melissa's second coming is due to an oversight by a major UK firm - a "household name", he claimed - whose identity he would not reveal. Shipp explained that this company does not use Microsoft's Outlook email client - which was how Melissa originally circulated - but received an infected email which has lain dormant on its network until now. Melissa sprang out again when the company sent out a highly confidential document infected by the virus, and is now running wild across corporate networks. Although many companies quickly updated their security software after the original Melissa scare, Shipp claimed companies are still being caught out. "We've already seen seven viruses turn up today, which suggests companies still are being infected," he said.
