Maxx installs countrywide UPS system

NEWS Retail giant, TK Maxx, has installed a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) system from security specialist, PK Electronics, to protect its UK wide area network. The US9001 power protection system is designed to ensure network continuity, linking offices in Milton Keynes, Wakefield and Watford, to the company's stores nationwide. TK Maxx chose a three module UPS system - two to support the load and one to provide redundancy. According to Shaun Whittaker, technical support analyst for the retailer, the modular system will allow the company the flexibility it needs as it continues to rapidly expand. Each module is a stand-alone UPS and can be swapped in and out without causing system downtime. The retailer has over 1,000 US outlets and 41 in the UK and Ireland. It specialises in selling big brand clothes, gifts and kitchenware at up to 60 per cent less than high-street prices.
