Security experts identify first Win2000-only virus

NEWS A computer virus aimed solely at Windows 2000 (Win2000) has been unearthed by Finnish security company, F-Secure Corporation. The virus is called Win2k.Inta or Win2000.Install, and does not function under older Windows operating systems (OS). F-Secure said the virus has not yet been discovered in the wild, and it is not thought to be damaging to data. However F-Secure said the key risk it poses is its compatibility with Win2000. Mikko Hypponen, manager of anti-virus research at F-Secure, said Win2000 is now vulnerable to being targeted easily by virus writers. The new OS, which will be on sale from February, has only recently finished beta-testing and was shipped to manufacturing in December.
